My Hair Industry Journey
Ever since a misguided blue-black box color incident at junior high church camp, I've believed in the transformative power of changing your hair. I chose this profession in my late 20s, after some misadventures in warehouse work and theatrical costuming. I had always enjoyed the experience of being a salon client and respected the artistry of my stylists. I wanted to create that environment and give that level of skill and creativity to others.
My early years as stylist were like a hair industry version of Kitchen Confidential. I was however, fortunate enough to learn from some talented local stylists, while collecting scandalous anecdotes. I gradually developed advanced skills in color formulation, balayage, DevaCurl cutting, and formal occasion styling. Last year, I accidentally found Wicked Studios social media. I honestly didn't feel ready to be an independent stylist, but the inclusive environment and dedication to sustainability convinced me to make the leap.
